Memory 3 from Book Sayyed Hossein: The Tense Nights of Martial Law in 1978 and Evading Encirclement
The year 1978 was full of revolutionary tension. The Shah’s regime imposed martial law, flooding city streets with tanks and armored vehicles to silence the population.
At 9 PM, Hossein and several companions ventured into the most fortified sector of Ahvaz, near the military governor’s residence and state broadcasting station, attempting to disarm patrol soldiers.
A firefight broke out as reinforcements arrived. Everyone managed to escape except Hossein, who threw his sidearm into the bushes and sprinted for a kilometer before being encircled and captured.
