Birth and Education
Seyed Hossein, the son of Ayatollah Hajj Seyed Morteza Oloum-ol-Hoda, was born into a religious family on September 11, 1959. At the age of 6, he began learning the Quran. By age 11, he started his struggle against the Shah's tyranny by establishing a library, lecture sessions, and Quranic gatherings.
Struggle Against the Pahlavi Regime
Martyr Oloum-ol-Hoda began his fight against the Pahlavi dictatorship in his early adolescence. At the age of 14, during the performance of an Egyptian circus in Ahvaz—where Egyptian dancers were brought to dull the minds of the people and corrupt society—he set fire to their den of corruption in a manner that harmed no one. On Ashura of the following year, he was one of the most influential figures in organizing the day's march, following which Hossein was arrested and imprisoned. As the youngest political prisoner, he endured months of torture without uttering a word. After his release, by founding an Islamic association and holding lecture series, he invited disoriented youth to Islam and its teachings.
Hossein then enrolled in the history program at Mashhad University. From the very beginning, he established a close connection with the Mashhad Seminary and became acquainted with militant clerics such as Ayatollah Khamenei, Hojatoleslam Tabassi, and Hojatoleslam Hasheminejad.
Hossein’s eloquence and persuasive speech were such that leftist and pro-monarchy professors would refuse to attend any class he participated in. He played a monumental role by posting declarations and leading demonstrations at Mashhad University, while coordinating programs with clergymen, bazaar merchants, and students.
At a time when the Taghut regime was gunning down the Muslim people of Iran, Oloum-ol-Hoda, along with several like-minded peers, formed the central core of the Movahedin Organization in Ahvaz. It was then that Hossein—already equipped with the weapon of faith—also armed himself with firearms.
For Hossein, struggle was not bound to a specific city; he constantly thought of obeying the Imam and fighting the Taghut. With a brilliant plan and precise ingenuity, he burned down the Kerman police headquarters in retaliation for the burning of the Kerman Grand Mosque. He walked calmly through the front entrance and exited normally without being captured, safely returning to Ahvaz.
Witnessing the crimes of the former regime, he conceived a plan to assassinate Shams Tabrizi, the defunct military governor in Ahvaz. One night, he attacked his house, but the governor's armed guards noticed and, after hours of struggle, captured and severely tortured him. The military tribunal sentenced him to death, demanding only that Hossein betray his comrade. However, denying possession of bombs, he refused to say a word.
Hossein devised a clever and ingenious plan for the escape of political prisoners from Ahvaz, which ultimately forced the regime to release them due to the intensification of struggles. Recognized by the ruthless agents in Ahvaz, Hossein came to Tehran to continue his struggle and welcome the Imam, working alongside his brothers in the Movahedin Organization and becoming one of the Imam’s special armed bodyguards.
Responsibilities After the Revolution
Oloum-ol-Hoda served for several months as a member of the Central Committee's command council and for a period as the head of the Ahvaz Islamic Revolution Committee. During this time, Hossein worked with relentless dedication, often resting for only three hours a night.
Alongside his military duties, Hossein engaged in cultural activities, taking the initiative to establish classes for teaching Islamic history and delivering various lectures.
When the draft of the constitution was being debated in the Assembly of Experts, Martyr Hossein Oloum-ol-Hoda, with the assistance of a fellow brother, drafted the concept of Velayat-e Faqih (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist) and submitted it to the Ahvaz representative in the Assembly.
Following the Imam's decree for the Literacy Movement, he assumed its management, and his speeches were broadcast on Ahvaz radio.
At the outbreak of the imposed war by Iraq against Iran, serving as the deployment officer, he organized and dispatched hundreds of people daily with absolute precision and order.
Martyrdom
Finally, on January 6, 1981 (the last day of the month of Safar) in the Hoveyzeh region, Martyr Oloum-ol-Hoda, alongside 60 Pasdaran brothers acting as the vanguard and infantry of the army, fought the enemy until they were surrounded by 40 enemy tanks. After hours of combat, having exhausted their ammunition, water, and food, they were martyred one by one. The last of them was Martyr Hossein Oloum-ol-Hoda, who destroyed 3 tanks with his RPG, and then, shouting "Allahu Akbar" while holding the Quran in his hand, achieved the honor of martyrdom at the age of 22.
The pure bodies of these dear ones remained where they fell until 16 months later, during Operation Beit ol-Moqaddas, when the blessed remains of the martyrs were identified through the efforts of search groups. Martyr Oloum-ol-Hoda was recognized by the Quran found beside him—a Quran signed by Imam Khomeini (RA) and Ayatollah Khamenei. The bodies of these martyrs were laid to rest in Hoveyzeh.
